In December 1945, a chance find in Upper Egypt returned to the world a library of texts that had been sealed away for roughly sixteen centuries. This lesson reconstructs how the Nag Hammadi codices were discovered, how they nearly perished, how they reached the scholarly world, and why their recovery reshaped the modern study of early Christianity.
